3-Methyl-1,5-Pentanediol (MPD)
Currently, Kuraray America is starting to market MPD (3-Methyl-1,5-Pentanediol). MPD is a low viscosity liquid with unique properties. It is a branched aliphatic diol with two primary hydroxyl groups. It provides significant advantages in a wide range of applications.
At very low temperatures, MPD remains a liquid and yields very low viscosity derivatives. It provides significantly excellent handling advantages, particularly in polyurethane and polyester resin applications. MPD's branched molecular structure easily yields non-crystalline polymers. This helps provide for resins that offer significant softness, durability, solvent compatibility, transparency, stain resistance, and mold resistance.

In addition to offering MPD, Kuraray manufactures and market polyols based on MPD. Offering polyols with varying molecular weights, there is sure to be a polyol that will offer great benefits for many applications.
